(a) Cancer cell lineage; yellow: cancer stem cell, red-black: non-stem cancer cells with decreasing proliferation potential ρ; (b) Tumor cells populate the computational lattice by cell migration and cell proliferation. A cell can randomly migrate to or place a daughter cell into one of the eight adjacent lattice points subject to availability. A cell becomes quiescent if all adjacent lattice points are occupied.
