Average bilingual index scores for self-report and objective measures in Experiment 1 (young bilinguals) and Experiment 2 (older bilinguals). Index scores reflect the extent to which proficiency in the two languages is balanced (ignoring direction of dominance), and are calculated by putting whichever language score is lower for each measure in the numerator, and the other language score (the higher scores) for each measure in the denominator.
