GFAP (b) and Iba-1 (d) immunoreactive cells were quantified per mm2 area of the hippocampal formation of infected and healthy mice. Immunoreactive cells were normalized to non-infected controls. The asterisk indicates a significant difference between infected wild-type (WT) and formyl peptide receptor 1 knockout (FPR1-KO) or FPR2-KO (each group n = 6) mice as determined by analysis of variance followed by Bonferroni test (*P < 0·05).
