White circles correspond to Experiment 1 (rule over vowels). Black triangles correspond to Experiment 2 (rule over consonants). A performance of 50% indicates rats responded equally to AAB and ABC words. Rats in both groups learned to discriminate AAB from ABC words independently of whether the rule was implemented over the vowels or over the consonants.
