Silencing of either SlSR1 or SlSR3L led to enhanced resistance to P. syringae pv. tomato DC3000. Two-week-old tomato seedlings were infiltrated with agrobacteria carrying pTRV2-SlSRs or pTRV2-GUS constructs and the pTRV2-GUS- and pTRV2-SlSRs-infiltrated plants were inoculated by vacuum infiltration with infiltration with P. syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (OD600 = 0.0002) at 3 weeks after VIGS infiltration. (A) Representative symptom of disease caused by P. syringae pv. tomato DC3000 at 4 days after inoculation. (B) Bacterial growth in inoculated leaves of pTRV2-GUS- and pTRV2-SlSRs-infiltrated plants. Leaf samples were collected at 0 and 4 days after inoculation and bacterial growth was measured. Data presented are the means ± SD from three independent experiments and different letters above the columns indicate significant differences at p < 0.05 level.
