Drought stress sensitivity of gudk mutant lines at the seedling stage. Wild-type and gudk-1 and gudk-2 mutant seedlings were grown for 20 d under well-watered conditions by maintaining 15 equal-sized seedlings per pot. Irrigation was withheld on the 20th day for 12 d, followed by rewatering for a week. A, Phenotype of drought-stressed plants followed by recovery. Photographs were taken before stress (0 d), at the end of the stress period (12 d), and a week after recovery (7 d recovery). B, Seedling survival. A week after recovery, the number of seedlings with at least one fully expanded leaf was counted and the percentage of survival was calculated. Values are the mean ± se of three biological replicates (n = 15). Double asterisks indicate significance at P ≤ 0.01 compared with the wild type as analyzed by the Student’s t test. WT, Wild type.
