A hypothetic model for the interaction of canonical PRC1 complex with interphasic and mitotic chromatin. In interphases of cells, Cbx2-PRC1 and Cbx4/6/7/8-PRC1 complexes dynamically bind to chromatin. During mitosis, the Cbx2-PRC1 complex is immobilized at mitotic chromosomes, whereas other Cbx family members (Cbx4, Cbx6, Cbx7, and Cbx8) rapidly exchange at mitotic chromosomes. Red star implies that factors such as covalent modification and protein interactor stabilize the Cbx2-PRC1 complex binding to mitotic chromosomes.
