Schematic illustration of online neural classifier. Neural spike times are acquired and weighted in real time to generate the weight population activity. On the onset of a trial, ongoing population activity is compared bin by bin to templates derived from the previous days' experiment. At the end of the trial, the minimum error between the population activity and the template was considered the classification result: if the cued trial matched the predicted template, the rat was given a water reward. * indicates the trial was classified as short because the error was the smallest.
