The mono-ADP-ribosylation cycle, and the enzyme activities of ADP-ribosyltransferase (ART) [69, 70] and ADP-ribosyl hydrolases (ARH) [66, 72, 73]. ARTs are responsible for transferring the ADP-ribose moiety from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) to an acceptor amino acid. ARH catalyses the hydrolysis of the bound ADP-ribose protein bond resulting in the regeneration of free protein.
