(a) Blood samples and DNAzyme sensors are mixed and then encapsulated in 100 s of millions of micrometre-sized droplets. DNAzyme sensors produce an instantaneous signal in the droplets that contain the bacterium. (b) In the IC 3D, droplets are collected and analysed using our high-throughput 3D particle counter that permits accurate detection of single-fluorescent droplets in a several millilitre pool of non-fluorescent droplets within minutes.
