Pre-sunrise K leaf (A), midday g s (B) and midday Ψleaf (C) for drought and control plants grown in growth chambers. Measurements were taken at the end of a 4–5 day period during which water was withheld from drought treatment plants, while control plants were watered as usual. All measurements were made on uppermost, fully expanded leaves. K leaf was measured with the evaporative flux method, g s was measured with a porometer and Ψleaf was measured with thermocouple psychrometers.
