Two-choice repellent assay results. When tested separately, female mosquitoes injected with water, β-galactosidase-dsRNA, or CquiIR40a-dsRNA landed preferentially on the control side of the arena (P < 0.01), thus clearly avoiding DEET. By contrast, female mosquitoes injected with CquiOR136-dsRNA, albeit actively landing and feeding (Movies S1 and S2), showed no side preference, thus suggesting inability to detect DEET. n = 6–10.
