EV71 and its 2A pro also induce SG formation. (A) HeLaEGFP-TIA1 cells were mock-infected, or infected with EV71 (MOI =10) for 3 h. After fixation, the cells were stained for HuR. The quantification of SG formation was determined by analyzing more than 100 cells that contained three or more granules in multiple fields for each experiment. The average of three independent experiments is indicated on the lower right of each panel. (B) HeLa cells were co-transfected with pmCherry-HuR and pEGFP-EV71 2A or pEGFP-C1 and the cells were fixed at 24 h post-transfection and then imaged. Nuclei were stained with Hoechst 33342. The localization of EGFP-TIA1 (A), HuR (A), or mCherry-HuR (B) was determined under a fluorescence microscope (×400). The percentage of green cells possessing SGs was quantified as in Figure 2A.
