Effect of policosanol on serum levels of uric acid. In Protocol II, we unexpectedly found that policosanol 20 mg/day significantly decreased serum uric acid level at 12 weeks compared with baseline (from 344 ± 115 μmol/L to 288 ± 98 μmol/L, P = 0.013, shown as “∗”), while there was no change in the control group (from 323 ± 77 μmol/L to 322 ± 76 μmol/L, P = 0.226).
