Radiolabeled bicarbonate is taken up by V. cholerae. Classical strain O395 cells were grown in AKI media in the absence of bicarbonate for 2 h. NaH¹⁴CO₃ was added at time zero, and uptake was analyzed every 15 min by liquid scintillation counting. NaH¹⁴CO₃ uptake was measured as cpm, reflecting the amount of radioactive ¹⁴C found within V. cholerae culture. Error bars represent standard deviations from three separate experiments.
