FIG 5

Growth and curli expression on pig dung agar plates. UTI89, S. enterica serovar Typhimurium, C. koseri, and two E. coli strains isolated from pig dung (WADS1 and WADS2) were grown on pig dung agar plates for 2 days at 26°C or 37°C. Rugose biofilm development was apparent by UTI89 and S. enterica serovar Typhimurium (A). Western blot analysis probing for the major curli subunit CsgA revealed that pig dung plates allowed for robust curli production by all strains (B). All Western blot samples were treated with HFIP to depolymerize CsgA.
