Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356 (L.4356) decreases intestinal cholesterol absorption in ApoE−/− mice. Intestinal cholesterol absorption was measured using the fecal dual-isotope method as described in Materials and Methods. It was reduced by 44% in the L.4356 group compared to the control group. Data are presented as the mean ± SEM (n = 10 in each group) *, P < 0.05 versus controls.
