Adhesion of P. gingivalis wild-type and mutant bacteria to extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules. P. gingivalis (OD₆₆₀ adjusted to 1.0) cells were applied onto a polystyrene plastic plate coated with ECM molecules. After incubation under anaerobic conditions for 3 h, the plate was washed with PBS. Adherent cells were stained with 1% crystal violet and washed with water. Adherence was evaluated by measuring the OD₅₇₀ after elution of the crystal violet with ethanol. All assays were performed in triplicate, and the standard deviations were determined.
