Observed rates of in-hospital mortality after heart transplantation. Infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) had a significantly higher rate of in-hospital mortality than did those with cardiomyopathy (A). Infants receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO) support or ventilator support had a higher rate of in-hospital mortality than did those without such support (B). Finally, infants with a creatinine clearance less than 40 mL · min−1 · 1.73 m−2, had a significantly higher rate of in-hospital mortality than did those with creatinine clearance greater than 40 mL · min−1 · 1.73 m−2 (C).
