Patients limited to 6,852 total patients who were admitted to the four ICUs reviewed for NHSN VAP during the 6 mo they were reviewed between 2008 and 2012. Nine patients were defined as having both VAE and NHSN VAP. Tests of significance were performed across VAE, NHSN VAP, both, and neither, using χ2, Fisher exact, or Student t test where appropriate.
