Six biogeographic regions are also diversity centers (numbers 1 to 6): 1) Chiapas Complex, 2) Oaxacan Valleys and Sierras, 3) Western Costal Mountain Range, 4) Central Plateau, 5) Northwest Sierras, 6) Chihuahuan Canyons, 7) Northern Plateau, 8) Gulf and Isthmus Plains, 9) Yucatán Peninsula, 10) Bajío, and 11) Baja California and Northwest.
