Strains were grown in S750 minimal medium with 0.2% D-glucose except for strain AK74 harboring the amyE::Pxyl dnaE-gfp allele. AK74 was grown in 1% L-arabinose to allow for expression with the addition of 0.125% D-xylose. The numbers reported are from at least three independent experiments.
