Top trace is in aCSF, while middle trace is in HEPES-buffered aCSF equilibrated with 100% O2. Note the decrease in the amplitude of inward current in the nominal absence of CO2/HCO3-. Bottom trace is after 5 minutes of wash in aCSF, and reverses the decrease in current amplitude. (B) Average IV plot of current recordings under the same conditions as in (A). Black trace is control in aCSF, while gray trace is in HEPES-buffered aCSF. Traces represent the mean ± SEM for 4 neurons.
