This cartoon illustrates the architecture of the perivascular niche of NSCs in the adult mammalian subventricular zone. It shows the relationships between the NSCs (the so called “B” cells) and their progeny, the transit-amplifying “C” cells and neuroblastic “A” cells. The schematic demonstrates the proximity of the NSC population to the vasculature, and also highlights several candidate soluble and insoluble interactions.
