Activation of the Akt/PI3K pathway is required for P. gingivalis-induced inhibition of apoptosis. Infected (24 h) and uninfected cells were further treated with staurosporine or LY294002 for periods similar to the ones for Fig. 3. Samples were subjected to Western blot analysis for Akt (Ser473) phosphorylation. Membranes were probed sequentially with an anti-phospho-Akt (pS473) antibody (upper panel) and an anti-Akt1/2 protein antibody (lower panel) to confirm that each lane received similar amounts of Akt. The blot shown is representative of two independent experiments.
