CYT-18 and Sc mtTyrRS C-terminal regions starting from the end of the α-helical domain were aligned to the chimeric proteins using the multiple sequence alignment tool, MUSCLE [86]. The CYT-18 sequence is in black, and the Sc mtTyrRS sequence is in green, with regions corresponding to the CYT-18 CTD insertions in red boxes. The secondary structure of the CYT-18 CTD predicted by I-TASSER is shown above the CYT-18 CTD sequence as either black helices or arrows representing β-sheets. The first residues of the CYT-18 and Sc CTD constructs are highlighted in orange, and the last residue of the CYT-18* construct highlighted in blue.
