The V. harveyi bioluminescent reporter strain XK006 (ΔluxMN ΔluxPQ ΔcqsS) harboring WT or His210 mutant luxN alleles expressed from pFED343 was assayed for responses to AHLs.

(A) DMSO, white; 1 μM 3OH-C4 HSL, black; 1 μM C4 HSL, grey.

(B) DMSO was used as the control, and AHLs were supplied at 10 μM. For panels A and B, error bars represent standard deviations for three replicates.

(C) Dose-dependent light production from XK006 carrying WT luxN or luxN His210 alleles. DMSO, open circles; AI-1 (3OH-C4 HSL), closed circles; C4 HSL, triangles; 3O-C4 HSL, squares. Representative data from at least three independent experiments are shown. EC50 values are in Table S1.
