Interictal Background Activity from human hippocampus recorded with intracranial depth electrode. There is an ongoing background activity followed by a paroxysmal gamma frequency oscillation (bold arrows), and an interictal epileptiform spike (IIS, arrow). The wavelet transform (1 - 600 Hz, Morlet basis) spectrogram of raw intracranial EEG shows the background theta activity, and the emergent low amplitude gamma oscillation preceding the IIS.
