Mean body temperatures for common minnows held in a shuttle-box apparatus in individuals could select their preferred temperature. Values at each point were calculated as the mean temperature during a given 30-min interval. Treatments were fed either ad libitum throughout the entire 95-day study (control treatment; open circles), or food deprived for 21 days before being fed ad libitum for the remainder of the study (food-deprived treatment; dark circles).
