Table 2.

Relationship between resting heart rate and levels of NT-proBNP

Log NT-proBNP Resting heart rate
PR (95% CI) P-value
Unadjusted 0.82 (0.18–1.51) 0.011
Model 1 1.12 (0.45–1.64) 0.001
Model 2 0.82 (0.12–1.68) 0.015
Model 3 0.91 (0.18–1.72) 0.018

Notes: Data are presented as partial correlation coefficient (PR) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) from linear regression analysis. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis models are as follows: model 1 is adjusted for age and sex. Model 2 is additionally adjusted for hypertension, diabetes, SBP, DBP, current smoking, BMI, waist circumference, resting heart rate, levels of plasma fasting glucose, TC, TG, HDL-C, and eGFR. Model 3 is adjusted for model 2 plus use of the following where used =1 and unused =0: aspirin, statins, β-blockers, calcium antagonists, ACE-Is, ARBs, and diuretics.

Abbreviations: ACE-Is, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; ARBs, angiotensin-receptor blockers; BMI, body mass index; DBP, diastolic blood pressure; eGFR, estimated glomerular filtration rate; HDL-C, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol; LDL-C, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol; NT-proBNP, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide; min, minute; SBP, systolic blood pressure; TC, total plasma cholesterol; TG, triglycerides.
