FIGURE 10. — Proposed mechanism for the role of miR-506 in decreased bicarbonate secretion in PBC cholangiocytes via its effect on InsP₃R3 expression. miR-506 expression was up-regulated in a PBC liver microRNA profiling (27) and specifically in cholangiocytes (20). This increased expression of miR-506 results in down-regulation of InsP₃R3 as shown in this study. This effect thus provides a potential mechanism for the decreased cholangiocyte HCO₃⁻ secretion that results from InsP₃R3 silencing (8).
