Cell size (µm) of 400 cells in each strain was measured using automated MicrobeTracker software, and cell length results were analyzed by GraphPad Prism 3.0 (columns 3 to 10). Min, minimum; Max, maximum; SD, standard deviation; Zn2+, strain was cultivated in the presence of 0.45 mM ZnCl2 to induce expression of His6-LocZ. The number of asymmetrically dividing cells was evaluated from phase-contrast microscopic pictures. Minicells represent all cells shorter than 1 µm (the minimal length of WT cells).
