The distance between donor and acceptor fluorophores changes as a function of denaturant concentration and reveals conformational changes during apoflavodoxin (un)folding. The Förster transfer distance (R0; open squares) changes as a function of denaturant concentration in a folding state-dependent manner. Calculated distances (rda; black dots) between donor Alexa Fluor 488 and acceptor Alexa Fluor 568 track the features of apoflavodoxin (un)folding. Values of R0 are obtained by using parameters as described in Supplementary Information SI3. Values of rda are obtained by using Equation (7).
