Population genetic models. (A) The fate of an allele is determined by natural selection if the product of the effective population size (Ne) and the coefficient of selection (s) is larger than one, and by genetic drift otherwise; (B) however, when mutation is taken into account, the equilibrium frequency (feq) of the fittest allele is 0 when the mutation rate (μ) is larger than the selection coefficient (s).
