Effect of anacetrapib, atorvastatin, and their combination on atherosclerosis development in the aortic root area. The number of lesions per cross-section (A), total lesion area per cross-section (B), the percentage undiseased segments (C), and lesion severity as a percentage of all lesions (D) were determined after 21 weeks of treatment. Lesion severity was classified as mild (type I–III) and severe (type IV–V) lesions. **P < 0.01, ***P < 0.001 when compared with control; #P < 0.05, ###P < 0.001 when compared with atorvastatin.
