The graft status was assessed using cresyl violet, NF70 and R73 staining. CV+/R73 and NF70+/R73 are considered as healthy graft with no (−) or low (+/−) amount of R73 T cells, no sign of degeneration (CV+) and/or a clear expression of the porcine neurofilament in neurons (NF70+). NF70+R73+ and NF70R73+ grafts are considered as rejecting and rejected graft respectively. Scar corresponds to the stage of almost complete disappearance of the graft. R73+/− corresponds to a brain with 1–10 T cells per section.
