Pathways for pyruvate utilization detected in the A. glabripennis larval midgut microbiome. The gut microbial community has an expanded capacity to synthesize pyruvate from pentose sugars found in hemicellulose and convert pyruvate to essential branched-chain amino acids and homocitrate, an essential component of the lysine biosynthetic pathway.
