a

The description of the animals and tissue samples collected at necropsy that were used for the analysis is provided in the footnotes to Table 1.

b

The tissue samples were examined by the pathologist (B. V. Kallakury), and the findings are summarized in the table. The findings describe the results of the analysis of the morphology/histopathology of the collected tissue samples. For each HCC tissue sample analyzed, whether the tissue consisted of only malignant HCC cells is indicated. If the tissue sample represented a partial HCC, the percentage of HCC cells was indicated and the rest of the tissue was characterized. For nonmalignant liver tissues, when the tissue was concluded to be partial normal liver tissue, the rest of the tissue also was briefly characterized.

c

The HCCs that were identified and located in the livers prior to superinfection with WHVNY are indicated. NA, nonapplicable.
