(A) The bottom half of the aortas (n = 11 in each group) were subjected to lipid extraction by a modified Folch method with chloroform/methanol (2:1). Free (FC) and esterified cholesterol (CE) were separated by high-performance thin layer chromatography and quantified by scanning laser densitometry. FC and CE standards are shown on the left.
