Figure 3. — The intracellular lifetime of water (τ_ic), a measure of cardiomyocyte diameter, increased significantly in the mice treated with l‐NAME, compared to l‐NAME+spironolactone, consistent with the histological appearance of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. At baseline there was no significantly difference in τ_ic between controls, l‐NAME, and l‐NAME+spironolactone groups. The τ_ic data for the control group are from a previous study, using the same experimental protocol. At follow‐up, τ_ic in the l‐NAME+spironolactone group was not significantly different from controls (P=0.34). l‐NAME indicates Nω–nitro‐l‐arginine‐methyl‐ester.
