The plot is based on the semiquantitative expression data after global filtering for miRNA probe sets with SD > 1.5. The first principal component (x-axis) has the largest possible variance, and each succeeding component (y-axis, z-axis) has the highest variance possible while being uncorrelated with the preceding components.
