DAAO enzymatic function DAAO deaminates D-amino acid (in this case D-ala) with the cofactor FAD to produce imino acid. In the process, FAD is reduced which is then quickly oxidized by O2 to produce oxidized FAD and H2O2. Imino acid eventually reacts with H2O to produce NH4 + and α-keto acid.
