We categorized hospitals that were members of the Association of American Medical Colleges' Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH) as major teaching hospitals, non-COTH hospitals that had one or more accredited residency training program as minor teaching hospitals, and all other hospitals as nonteaching hospitals. IQR indicates interquartile range.
