Paroxetine protects neurons against gp120-induced cell death in vivo. (a) Experimental design; rats were given either paroxetine or saline at 10 mg/kg/day via an osmotic pump. 7 days later, rats were then challenged with intra-caudate-putamen (CPu) injection of SV(gp120). Brains were harvested 7 days after SV(gp120) challenge and studied for apoptosis by TUNEL assay. (b) Shown are sample images of neurotrace (NT, a neuronal marker)- and TUNEL- positive neurons.
