Yellow variants display altered virulence following oral infection. BALB/c mice (n = 10 per group) were infected with ~104 CFU of B. pseudomallei orally: WHT (white circles), YA (yellow squares), and YB (orange triangles). Mice were monitored for survival and euthanized upon reaching predetermined endpoints. Data were pooled from two independent experiments. *, P < 0.05 between YB and WHT at day 12 (acute infection) and between YA and YB at day 66 (chronic infection); **, P < 0.01 between YA and YB at day 12 in infection.
