Growth and metabolism of co-cultures initiated with wild-type G. metallireducens and strains of G. sulfurreducens in which genes for putative electron transport genes were deleted in AQDS-amended medium after four successive transfers. G. sulfurreducens strains evaluated were: (A) wild-type and the BESTZ strain deficient in the outer-surface c-type cytochromes OmcB, OmcE, OmcS, OmcT, and OmcA; (B) strains deficient in the putative outer-surface multi-copper proteins OmpB of OmpC; (C) strain deficient in the putative porin OmpJ; and (D) strain deficient in the putative periplasmic c-type cytochrome encoded by gene GSU3274.
