Pseudomonas aeruginosa type III secretion system. P. aeruginosa injects its four type III secretory toxins ExoS, ExoT, ExoU, and ExoY directly into the cytosol of target eukaryocytes through the type III secretory apparatus. Translocated toxins are activated by specific eukaryotic cell cofactors. Following activation, ExoS shows ADP-ribosyltransferase acitivity, whereas ExoT shows ADP-ribosyltransferase and GTPase activating protein (GAP) activity. Activated ExoU has phospholipase A₂ activity, and ExoY exhibits adenylate cyclase activity.
