Stimulation of glycogen synthesis by inhibition of GSK3. Specific activity of brain glycogen was measured relatively to the specific activity of blood glucose in lithium-treated rats. At 4–12 min after injection of radioactive glucose, 15 μmol LiCl was intracisternally injected into the rats. The brains were frozen 2 h after the injection and incorporation of radioactivity into glycogen determined. *P < 0.05 (4–8 rats at each point). (Plenge, 1976).
