ScyA in excess increases nitrite resistance of the Δcyd strain. All strains without overexpressing ScyA carried empty vectors. ScyAC35S is the a ScyA mutant whose the heme-binding site CTVCH was mutated to CTVSH. (B) Western blotting analysis for ScyA. To determine the extent of ScyA overproduction in the cultures from (A), extracts were prepared from cells grown to an OD600 of ∼0.8 under aerobic conditions. Immunoblot analysis was performed with antibodies against ScyA. Relative abundance (RA) of ScyA in these strains was estimated using software Image J. The values are the mean ± SD (error bars) (n = 4).
