Stimulation of P2X7R in M-like cells can enhance the production of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-6. M-like cells or control enterocyte-like cells were prepared as described in the Materials and Methods and then treated with LL-37 for 24 hours. The level of IL-6 in culture supernatant after each indicated treatment was determined by ELISA and is expressed as pg/ml.
